Overview:
As a counsellor, I have worked primarily with disadvantaged/at risk population
groups, and in a variety of settings. Such settings are schools, children’s
homes, outpatient hospital clinics, and counselling centres. I have
supported clients in different timeframes; crisis, short-term, mid-term,
and even long-term periods.
Children's Counselling:
I have experience working with school aged students within an educational
setting, working with children individually and in groups, and in disadvantaged
communities. In some communities where counselling is not yet recognised, I was
fortunate to be able to provide pastoral care to children living out of home,
and through various activities.
Adults’ Counselling:
Working with adults, previously I focussed on carrying out clinical
assessments, as well as crisis counselling. Many of the adults presented either
at risk of, or were currently experiencing emotional distress, relationship
difficulties, mental health issues, amongst other concerns.
Gender Based Violence:
Formerly, I worked intensively within an outpatient public hospital setting,
specialising in gender based violence counselling. I worked predominantly with
child and adolescent clients and their families, providing a mixture of counselling
assessments, counselling sessions, and outreach work in schools. Many of the
clients whom I counselled experienced gender based violence in the forms of
child sexual abuse, sexual assault, sexual abuse, family violence, and domestic
violence.
FDVSA & Violence Prevention:
In recent years, I have been supporting female adult survivors who have been
affected by family violence, domestic violence, and/or sexual assault, and
during different stages of the abuse. Presently, I am focusing on prevention of
violence against women and children, by counselling men whom are concerned
about using violence within their relationships (domestic and family), and from
a preventative space.
