My passion for counselling has stemmed from a thirty plus
year career in equipping and empowering young people (aged 8-25), adults and
their families. I am passionate about supporting people in becoming the best
version of themselves and that through counselling and providing the practical
skillsets people need enabling them to successfully move forward with their
lives.
I have extensive experience in the Social Welfare and
Education Industry, working with people from all walks of life who have or who
are experiencing complex needs. These include; Anxiety, childhood abuse, ADHD,
Alcohol/drug concerns, Autism, behavioural concerns, bullying, depression,
disabilities, family conflict, grief, mental health, rape and sexual assault,
self-image, suicide, and workplace bullying.
My counselling approach is real and practical, using tools
from a number of proven therapeutic approaches that are based on YOUR specific
needs and goals. I start by asking the simple question of “What do YOU want to
achieve by coming to counselling?”
I have spent my 35 year career working with those with
challenging and complex needs. I aim to understand and relate to those I work
with and their families. I have learnt the importance of coming alongside
people, communicating with them, really seeing and hearing them as an
individual, so that we can then work on understanding themselves and learning
practical skills they may need for moving forward.
Fundamentally I want to help clients understand and develop
their own strengths and gain new skills to enable them to heal and flourish
independently.
My understanding of the practices within DHHS, Centrelink,
Department of Education and NDIS in ‘hands on’ client support roles are also of
benefit to those I work with as they navigate the processes involved.
Finally, my passion for counselling is motivated by wanting
to see both those I work with and their families understand they are supported,
so they do not feel alone.
“There is nothing we can’t talk about here…..Lets get
together…..you’re not alone.”
