Hi my names is James, I am a Australian Counselling Association (ACA) Registered Counsellor with Empowering Minds and Development. As your counsellor I deliver an integrative counselling and coaching approach.
What does this mean for you? It means, I will hold a safe therapeutic space for which we can explore your world holistically and identify behaviours and challenges that no longer serve you and guide you in developing behaviours and strategies that are healthier, more practical and effective.
I support and focus on the areas of; men’s mental health, anxiety, depression, stress management, traumatic experiences, abandonment, attachment issues, grief and loss, life transitions, neurodiversity (ADHD & ASD), adolescents/young people, motivation coaching, career coaching, life coaching and behavioural coaching.
During our sessions I will implement multiple evidence-based interventions, theories and modalities either separately or together. These may include but not limited to; Cognitive-behavioural therapy, attachment theory, trauma informed care, person-centered therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, collaborative therapy, family systems theory, emotion-focused therapy, mindfulness, narrative therapy, psychotherapy, solutions-focused therapy, and multiple focuses of coaching.
About me
Since a young age I have always had a passion for mental health, coming from a rough upbringing, having neurodiversity and being exposed to many challenges at a young age for a continuous period I have always wanted to assist people in overcoming their challenges and fears to becoming better versions of themselves.
I have always had a passion for working in the men’s mental health space and encouraging a safe open environment for men to explore their emotions and navigate through their lives in confidence.
Prior to counselling I have worked in multiple industries all in relation to assisting people with their lives such as; recruitment and employment consultancy, career coaching, residential youth worker, NDIS support work, and male focused counselling. The last 3 years have been a focus on support/youth work and counselling/coaching.
I value honesty and openness with a non-judgmental approach to life to create a safe therapeutic space for clients who are ready to engage in improving their lives, one step at a time.
