Jo is a psychotherapist and relationship counsellor who believes strongly in the therapeutic power of empathy, acceptance and safety to create positive change for individuals and relationships. She works through an attachment, trauma-informed lens to attune to her clients and help them access and express their vulnerability and needs. Joanna is warm, accepting, highly empathic and compassionate and she uses a client-centered, strengths-based, collaborative approach. She is interested in helping individuals, couples and families to find relief, healing, happiness and transformation.Jo has a strong interest in helping those dealing with the impacts of anxiety, depression, trauma and relationship distress, and has a particular interest in working with neuro- and sexual diversity. She has undertaken specialist training working with neurodiverse couples through the Autism & Asperger Network in the USA.Joanna is passionate about Emotionally Focused Therapy and its power to assist couples to enhance and nurture safety and connection in their relationships and create strong, resilient attachment bonds. She loves helping couples build a secure base and a safe haven, to create the functional interdependence that will allow them to thrive as individuals and as a couple.Jo's other passion is Attachment-Focused EMDR to help those coping with attachment-related trauma.Jo completed her Masters of Counselling studies through the University of Queensland, earning the Dean’s Commendation for Academic Excellence. Prior to becoming a psychotherapist, Jo worked as a dispute resolution lawyer in Australia, the UK and Europe, specialising in international arbitration in the construction industry. Family life encouraged Joanna to seek a new direction, and she attended a number of seminars and conferences on autism, learning difficulties and paediatric mental health before deciding to study counselling.
