Dr Joanne Wicks is an Australian Registered Play Therapist Supervisor and Registered Counsellor Supervisor. For over a decade, Joanne has worked with children and families in a variety of settings including Aboriginal communities, private practice, agencies, not for profit organizations and immigration detention centres in Darwin and on Christmas Island. Her areas of expertise include Child Centred Play Therapy (CCPT), developmental trauma, therapeutic parenting, multicultural counselling, and counselling through interpreters. Dr Wicks’ PhD project focused on an intensive variant of CCPT for children who have experienced adversity in Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal communities. Recently, Joanne received the United States Association for Play Therapy 2019 Student Research Award of excellence in Dallas, Texas. Joanne was born and raised in Darwin and enjoys sharing her life with her family which includes two fur babies and a turtle.
