My experience has mostly been in the health and wellbeing industry and since 2015 I have been working in the not for profit sector as a support worker, case manager and counsellor. My client base has included people from a diverse range of backgrounds - our First Nation peoples, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, including asylum seekers and refugees, people with a disability transitioning into the NDIS and socioeconomically disadvantaged youth between 12 to 25 years living in South Western Sydney. My skills lie in supporting young people, individuals, couples and families that are experiencing difficulties in their relationships, work environment, hardship, concerns from the past and managing current life challenges.I am motivated by compassion and a desire to support others in their challenges. I am empathetic and understanding and able to listen, clarify and validate my clients’ experiences. l help my clients to identify and draw from their strengths within. I encourage clients to accept but not be ruled by their past and to have hope for their futures by supporting them to step forward and make positive changes through setting goals, seeing opportunities and learning new skills.I believe our intrinsic value as human beings is not in what we do, but who we are. For clients wanting to overcome unwanted or non-preferred behaviour, I will work with them to focus not on the form of that behaviour but the function, delving into the ‘why?’ to break unwanted patterns. The effectiveness of my counselling is based on having a good therapeutic relationship with my clients. I use aspects of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and Narrative Exposure Therapy to address the individual needs of each client.
