Are you struggling with the challenges of trauma, burnout, grief, or sensory issues in school or work environments?
Mental health matters.
Acknowledging the need for help is a sign of strength and self-compassion.
Karen Merry assists families and students facing school stress due to unmet needs, especially those who are neurodivergent or have experienced trauma. Her practice uses evidence-based therapies such as Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT), Somatic Experiencing, Mindful Self-Compassion, and Mindful Based Stress Reduction to provide comprehensive support.
As a neurodivergent-affirming, trauma-informed counsellor with a National Worker Screening check, Master of Counselling, and teaching qualification, Karen is well-equipped to work with children aged 5 years and older, with a working with children check. She supports NDIS participants with plan management, self-management, and combination plans, ensuring her clients receive tailored care that meets their unique needs.
With a background as a teacher and professional photographer, and lived experience of ADHD, Karen brings a unique perspective to her practice. She researches creative ways to regulate emotions using sensory methods like mindful photography. This innovative approach helps students express themselves, build their identity, and advocate for themselves in sensory-overloaded environments. By integrating these methods, Karen helps her clients navigate their challenges and develop practical strategies for managing anxiety and depression.
As a compassionate parent who has experienced school stress firsthand, Karen is committed to furthering her understanding and expertise in this area. She is pursuing a PhD to integrate mindfulness and photography into her practice even further. Her goal is to shift the perspective on school attendance from an authoritarian approach to one that embraces compassion for diversity through research, exhibitions, and awareness campaigns.
Karen's dedication to her clients extends beyond traditional counselling methods. She is passionate about creating a supportive and understanding environment where her clients can thrive. Her approach is grounded in empathy and a deep understanding of the unique challenges faced by neurodivergent individuals and those who have experienced trauma.
At Merry Counselling, Karen Merry offers both in-person sessions in Croydon, Victoria, and online Zoom telehealth sessions to accommodate her clients' needs. Whether you prefer face-to-face interaction or the convenience of virtual meetings, Karen is here to provide the support you need.
