Kathryn Millist-Spendlove

Kathryn is a registered counsellor specialising in the following areas:- Interpersonal trauma- including sexual, physical, emotional and religious trauma;- Perinatal psychology - including matrescence/patrescence (the transition to parenthood), birth trauma, sexual rediscovery, and infertility;- Vicarious (secondary) trauma - including lawyers, doctors, first responders, etc.; and- Specialist counselling for legal professionals.She is a lawyer who has worked as a solicitor, barrister and in-house counsel. Her move into counselling came following years of practice in Abuse Law working for survivors of sexual abuse. Kathryn holds qualifications in counselling, law and psychology. She completed a Master of Counselling with Distinction, coming top of her class and was the valedictorian at her graduation in 2023. She was also awarded the PACFA Outstanding Graduate Award in 2023. She currently completing Graduate Diploma in Science in Medicine (Sexual and Reproductive Health) in Psychosexual Therapy through the University of Sydney. She previously worked as a counsellor and program facilitator within the prison system, before moving to work in the domestic violence sector.Kathryn's particular areas of interest include sexual intimacy, infertility, matrescence, birth trauma, and vicarious trauma, particularly within the legal profession.Kathryn uses a trauma-informed integrated modality of counselling, including neurobiology, somatic therapies and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. She is also a Trauma Sensitive Yoga practitioner.Kathryn currently offers in-person, Zoom and telephone appointments.
