With my unique perspective as both a professional and a parent of neurodiverse individuals, I bring a deep understanding of the challenges faced by those with ADHD, learning difficulties, and giftedness. My experience in schools, my work with Speld NSW, and my graduate qualifications in counselling, counselling for education professionals, and inclusive education equip me to offer tailored support for disengaged youth (children aged 5-18).
I specialise in helping young people who are disconnected from their peers, families, schools, and communities. My focus is on providing evidence-based strategies that help re-engage them and build stronger connections. I use a strengths-based approach, guiding clients to recognise their abilities and work towards their goals. Together, we identify the actions that are taking them away from their aspirations and shift towards those that move them closer to success. While I guide the process, it is the client’s dedication and effort that drives the change.
I’m trained in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), and Motivational Interviewing (MI)—all of which I use to empower young people to make meaningful changes in their lives. These therapies are especially effective for disengaged youth, fostering ownership and helping them embrace a strengths-based perspective.
What sets me apart is my lived experience as both neurodiverse and a parent to neurodiverse young adults. I truly “get it”. I understand the emotional challenges that ADHD, learning disabilities, and giftedness bring. I’m familiar with the feelings of shame, frustration, and isolation that can accompany these challenges. I know the toll it takes on both individuals and families, and I work to bring understanding and relief through empathy and guidance.
I recognise how difficulties with attention, emotional regulation, and communication can significantly affect relationships and academic performance. These challenges often leave young people feeling misunderstood, frustrated, and disconnected from their peers, teachers, and families. I understand the barriers this creates and work with clients to build skills that help them communicate more effectively, manage emotions, and re-engage with their goals.
In my work, I help clients see their uniqueness as something to celebrate. Together, we develop personalised strategies that are empowering and effective, and I ensure these solutions fit their needs and strengths. My approach is based in compassion, respect, and a deep understanding of each individual’s journey.
Whether your child is struggling with social anxiety, emotional regulation, or feeling disconnected from school and peers, I am here to help them navigate these challenges. I work with clients to build practical strategies that enhance their communication, emotional resilience, and confidence.
