Kay is a compassionate, highly adaptable counsellor, couples & family therapist who has been supporting individuals, couples and families from all cultures and backgrounds for a number of years. She brings a world of knowledge, wisdom and lived experience to her counselling practice, supporting clients with depression, anxiety, trauma, family conflict, relationship troubles, communication problems, grief and loss, stress, and adjusting to life events. Kay understands diversity having grown up in several different countries before settling in Australia in 2004. It has helped her to be more open-minded and non-judgmental so that all her clients feel heard and understood. Emotionally Focused Therapy for individuals, couples and families, an approach with very high success rates backed by solid empirical evidence, is Kay’s favourite therapy approach. EFT is based on Attachment Theory, which understands mental distress through the innate human need to connect, belong, be loved, accepted and validated. She believes that most mental distress is about relationships, either with yourself or others. Kay also enjoys coming up with creative practical strategies for clients seeking brief interventions and practical solutions. Kay has worked in various capacities in the community sector in the field of mental health, addiction, family violence, sexual assault, school counselling, couples and family counselling for many years. Kay holds a Graduate Diploma in Counselling and Integrated Psychotherapy, Graduate Diploma in Psychology, Advanced Diploma in Counselling and Family Therapy and has done additional training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy, Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy, Mindfulness, ACT, CBT and Trauma work. Kay is open to exploring spiritual practices into therapy such as meditation, prayer, gratitude and whatever other belief systems clients would like to bring. Outside of work, Kay divides her time adjusting to being a mum to two teenagers, playing in an orchestra, keeping herself and her dogs fit through long distance running, and engaging in spiritual practices. She is also available to run workshops to explore themes on mental health and maintaining healthy relationships.
