As an ACA registered counsellor, Lydia has gained experience working with organisations such as headspace and Lifeline WA in both regional and metro settings across Western Australia.
She is passionate about working with young people and has dedicated her career to furthering her skills and understanding towards this unique age group. Lydia has worked with children from 8-12 years old, and expanded her experience working with 12-25 year olds across multiple headspace centres. She applies a person-centred, collaborative approach to her practice and applies art and play therapy interventions that are age appropriate for her young clients.
Having worked with high risk presentations in teenagers, Lydia established Change That Heals counselling practice to provide counselling, emotional support and advocacy. She works with families and young people to overcome distressing times and issues. Dialectical Behaviour Therapy and Acceptance Commitment Therapy are her main therapeutic interventions for psychological support, and to tackle issues, such as emotional dysregulation, low distress tolerance, anxiety and anger management issues, grief and loss (often experienced through separation/divorce), stress management and relationship issues.
Lydia provides supervision to clinicians at her workplace in the city, and is able to provide supervision during appointment times as well to counselling students and practicing counsellors. Here too, the focus is strongly on collaborating and working together to overcome barriers and triggers that may hinder best practice. She offers after-hours appointments Mondays and Saturdays to accommodate for work and school schedules.
