Maggie Kenny – Registered Counsellor (Level 2)
M.A. Counselling Psychology
Hi, I’m Maggie Kenny, a registered counsellor with the Australian Counselling Association (ACA), passionate about helping individuals navigate their emotional worlds and improve their relationships. With a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology and experience across private practice, public, and non-profit sectors, I bring a well-rounded approach to supporting clients through life’s challenges.
Experience and Specializations
My career has been shaped by a diverse set of experiences. Before moving to Australia, I worked in Vancouver, Canada, where I provided individual therapy in private practice and served in the public sector, supporting individuals with complex emotional needs. I also have hands-on experience in the non-profit sector, where I worked with youth and families, particularly focusing on improving relationships and emotional well-being. This broad background allows me to adapt my approach to suit each client’s unique situation.
I specialize in helping clients explore and work through issues related to:
- Anxiety
- Self-Esteem
- Relationship Issues
- Attachment and Attachment Styles
- Depression
- Grief and Loss
If you’re feeling overwhelmed by anxiety, struggling with your sense of self, or finding relationships challenging, I’m here to help. I also have a deep understanding of how attachment theory plays out in adult relationships and can support you in healing from past relational wounds, guiding you toward healthier, more fulfilling connections.
Approach to Therapy
My approach is emotion-focused and client-centered with a foundation in cognitive-behavioral therapy. I work collaboratively with you to build a space where you feel heard, accepted, and understood. Every individual’s journey is different, and I tailor my methods to meet your needs, ensuring that therapy is a meaningful and transformative experience.
I draw on several therapeutic models to provide comprehensive care, including:
- Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT)
- Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
- Attachment Theory
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
- Somatic Therapy
These approaches help you understand the roots of your emotions and behaviors, develop coping strategies, and foster greater self-acceptance. My goal is to help you gain insight into your patterns, navigate difficult emotions, and build a stronger relationship with yourself and others.
Why Work with Me?
Therapy with me is not just about managing symptoms; it’s about fostering growth and building deeper self-awareness. I work hard to ensure that every session is a safe, non-judgmental space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings, and concerns at your own pace. Whether you're dealing with personal challenges, relational issues, or simply wanting to gain deeper insight into yourself, I’m committed to supporting you on this journey.
