passion for helping individuals navigate life's challenges. She has honed her
skills in providing empathetic and non-judgmental support to those seeking
guidance on their journey toward mental and emotional well-being.
Marissa completed her undergraduate degree in
Psychology in Canada, concluding her studies through the Counselling Masters
program at Monash University. Conducting her placement within a primary school,
Marissa found a passion for helping children through various psychotherapeutic
techniques like narrative therapy, play therapy, and mindfulness. Working in
the Early Intervention and Positive Behaviour Support field for the past 2
years has extended this passion towards families and adults struggling through
the everyday challenges and tribulations of life. The experience she has had within these roles
has also contributed to the progression in her ability to connect and support
families and individuals on a deeper level.
In her practice, Marissa adopts a client-centred approach,
recognizing that each individual is unique and deserving of a tailored
therapeutic experience. She specializes in anxiety, depression, relationship
issues, and neurodiversity, employing a neurodiverse affirming practice. Marissa makes sure to employ evidence-based
interventions such as cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), narrative therapy, emotion-focused
therapy, somatic therapies and mindfulness practices to promote positive change,
consistently ensuring that she is equipped with the latest tools and techniques
to assist her clients effectively.
Marissa firmly believes in fostering a safe and trusting space
where clients can explore their thoughts and emotions openly. Her goal is to
empower individuals to discover their strengths, develop coping mechanisms, and
cultivate resilience in the face of life's challenges.
Marissa is committed to
creating an inclusive and affirming environment for clients of all backgrounds,
cultures, and identities. She approaches counselling with a deep respect for
diversity and an understanding of the unique factors that shape each person's
experience. Her focus as a counsellor is to work with you side by side to support your journey
from feeling anxious or incompetent to clarity, empowerment and finding your
voice in the chaos of life.
Marissa is currently accepting new clients for telehealth appointments.
