Megan Shiell

Megan Shiell is founder of Expressive Therapy Clinic. She is a registered Art Psychotherapist. She has recently moved to Tweed Heads and has set up a private practice. She can offer Workcover services and is able to offer some Private Health rebates. Her previous work has been in private practice treating clients with personality disorders, anxiety disorders, depression and behavioural issues,and PTSD. Megan has also worked as a consultant to Private Hospitals in Sydney providing services in individual therapy and in group therapy. For the past 6 years Megan has been developing and facilitating various programs using Art Psychotherapy as an experiential component in the teaching of Dialectical Behaviour Therapy as part of a treatment program for patients who suffer the emotional dysregulation. Megan has completed intensive DBT training in Newcastle and her last professional work before moving north was the DBT co-ordinator for all programs at Sydney Clinic Bronte up until November 2011.
The two pronged approach of using Art Psychotherapy and DBT together has helped DBT clients achieve a greater understanding of their behaviours and their ability to regulate their emotional experience. Megan has also worked with brain injury and run groups for early onset dementia clients from Alzheimers Australia. Megan has published an article on her work in Art Psychotherapy and DBT in the 2nd Edition of ANZJAT 2008 . Megan has previously presented at Conferences in Australia, New Zealand and Singapore. Apart from her professional service she has dedicated the last 6 years to work as a volunteer in holding various committee positions in ANZATA (Australian and New Zealand Art Therapy Association) to promote the field of art psychotherapy.
Megan now offers weekend workshops for other Health Professionals and Educations. One is \"Introduction to Art Therapy\" and the other is \"Art Therapy, DBT and Positive Psychology\". Megan also conducts an 'Introduction to Dialectical Behaviour Therapy" workshop. For further detail go to www.expressivetherapyclinic.con.au. All programs facilitated by Megan are approved for CPD/OPD points with Australian Counselling Association ACA, Australian Association of Social Workers AASW, Australian Psychological Society APS, Australian and New Zealand Arts Therapy Association ANZATA and Australian Council of Mental Health Nurses ACMHN.
Megan is a Registered Clinical supervisor and offers E supervision services as well as face to face.
Megan has been invited to do her Masters of Philospy to follow on to a PHD. Her subject is \" The development of Dialectical Behaviour Therapy and Art Therapy program for the treatment of people suffering emotional dysregulation?\" . She hopes to begin her studies in ealry 2014.
