Yarraman Homestead is a peaceful
10 acre property in the western suburbs of Brisbane, nestled amongst Jacarandas, Mango trees and horse paddocks on a quiet stretch of the Brisbane River.
The property provides a perfect healing and learning environment for Equine Assisted and Nature Based Counselling.
Melissa is a licensed professional Counsellor with a lifelong connection to horses and the land. Melissa’s dream was to combine her professional skills in mental health and disability with the healing qualities of horses in a natural environment to offer a range of equine assisted and nature based services. An affiliation with EquusTerra and uniting with other likeminded people led the way to realizing that dream.

Yarraman Homestead - Services
Equine Assisted Counselling
An unmounted program which includes Cognitive Behavioural and Person Centred Therapies combined with ground work activities with our therapy horse Xena. Interactive activities with Xena will be individualised to each client’s needs and goals.
Nature Based Counselling
One on one counselling set in the natural calm environment of the agistment facility & hobby farm. Nature Based Counselling uses Cognitive Behavioural and Person Centred therapies individualised to meet your needs and goals. NB these sessions are not equine assisted.
Therapeutic Horse Riding
A 'Learn to Ride' program with lessons adapted to each individual and their learning style by an Allied Health Professional. Long-term goals are riding skills and therapeutic benefits, such as improvements in physical strength, balance, coordination, mobility, self-confidence, self-control, peer interaction, and social skills. The skills are developed in a holistic and mindful way through learning about an intricate connection between the horse and the rider.
