As a Founder of Amima Counselling, I work to ensure that my practice is a safe place for all who require it. I believe that by providing a setting of genuine comfort I can set about my role of genuinely listening to the unique issues of my clients in order to truly help them work through their issues. With a diverse history in counselling, having worked with children, adolescents, adults and families, and particular experience with those experiencing mental health and or drug use concerns, I combine the utmost care as well as the knowledge and experience my clients may require. My approach is highly individualised and supportive, focusing on your unique concerns to ensure that you get what you want out of therapy, and your life as a whole. Solution-focused, my emphasis is always on providing the utmost support and best results for my clients. I specialise in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), a modern, scientific approach to mindfulness-based, values-oriented behavioural therapy, firmly rooted in cutting-edge research into human behavioural psychology. ACT emphasises learning to accept what is out of our control, and committing to what you want your life to be, and has proven effective in helping to overcome anxiety and its crippling effects on our lives. In addition to working with individuals, I also provide research-based, goal-oriented support for couples. Using Gottman Method Couples Therapy, I help partners increase respect, affection and closeness, break through and resolve conflict, generate greater understanding between each other, and teach how to keep conflict discussions calm. I am a member of PACFA (Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia), ACA (Australian Counselling Association).
