My therapeutic style focuses on building
relational safety. I strongly believe that the relationship between a
person and their therapist is the most vital in creating meaningful
lasting change. With this in my mind as I work with you, I work from a
place that is relatable and warm.
When we
experience difficulty in life, it can feel like there’s something
innately ‘wrong’ with us. I’m a big believer that as humans we face
challenges, traumatic events and blocks in our road and our response to
that, whether the response comes out physically, emotionally,
behaviorally, or psychologically we are human. The different ways in
which we cope are often based on the resources that we have
subconsciously learned and can depend greatly on the experiences we have
had.
Every person I speak with comes with a
unique background of experience and has a wealth of skills and
knowledge that they bring to counselling. Each has different ways to
cope with life every day. As such, my style of working is very
collaborative as I believe that people are the experts in their own
lives. My approach in exploring an issue or experience that is
challenging you is to work alongside you using the mix of what we both
know to make sense of it and explore new ways of being. I do this using a
mix of Internal Family Systems Informed Therapy (IFS), Polyvagal
Theory, Somatic Experiencing, Psychology, Sensory-motor Psychotherapy,
Trauma-Informed Therapy, Ego State and Parts Work Therapy,
Mindfulness-Based Therapy DBT and CBT.
