I’ve always had an interest in human behaviour and relationships. I can remember from a young age being fascinated by relationships and having a keen interest in figuring out why people behaved as they did, why some of us led happy and fulfilling lives, while others struggled. My interest in understanding the human experience combined with my propensity for helping people, eventually led to my decision to train as a therapist.
During my training I came to understand that both who we are in the world and the experiences we have, are predominately influenced by the beliefs we hold about ourselves. For most people these beliefs are completely unconscious, leading most to conclude that life is just a series of random events that happen to us and for which we have no control. Fortunately, this is not the case! Whether we’re experiencing crippling anxiety or depression, questioning whether our relationship is right for us, or experiencing workplace or family conflict, positive change is possible. Moreover, counselling is a proven process to help us facilitate long lasting change in our lives.
I’m passionate about the change process and supporting people to work through the challenges they’re experiencing, identify what they would prefer and help them to make these changes. I understand that both time and money are valuable so am committed to supporting clients to move through their therapeutic work as promptly as possible. Having said that, I also work with a number of clients who have come to value the therapeutic process as a proven method for creating change, so much that they’ve continued their therapeutic journey well after their initial crisis has been resolved.
In terms of how I work, I use an integrative counselling approach which allows me to follow the needs of each individual person more effectively. Some of the key approaches I draw from include Person Centred Therapy, Psychosynthesis, Gestalt, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Imago Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy and Narrative Therapy.
