I have a strong background in the human services sector with over 30 years' experience working across a variety of different roles. My career involves community development, employment support, vocational training and experience in both aged care and childcare sectors. I enjoy working with all demographics, and have worked closely with disadvantaged groups, children and youth, mature age, and people from equity backgrounds. I enjoy being challenged in my work and continue to develop my skills and clinical practice through professional development opportunities, networking, and day-to-day best practice. I am a professional member with the peak body Australian Counselling Association (ACA); member number 26422. I have worked dual roles as a child and family therapist at Carinity Illoura since 2022 and use a strength-based framework and humanistic approach to counselling combining therapies such as: Narrative orientated therapies – unpacking stories that shape people’s lives. Person-Centred – focusing on how people view themselves rather than the counsellor’s interpretations. Family Systems Theory – Murray Bowen. Strength-Based Counselling – a positive approach, focusing on client’s strengths and assets rather than weaknesses. Cognitive Behavioural therapy – an approach that aims to help clients adjust to certain behaviours by changing their thought patterns. Solution-Focused therapy – a longer term approach, focusing on the client’s present and future goals rather than past experiences.I have lived experience raising an autistic child with emotional dysregulation, separation anxiety, sensory processing, hypermobility and impulsivity issues.Every client is different and has their own unique experiences. Integrating a variety of counselling approaches into my sessions enables every person I work with the best opportunity to grow, recover, and thrive!
