I have a wide life experience. I gained an interest in counselling through my contact with adolescents with behavioural and learning issues. As a Deputy Principal Pastoral Care/Welfare my career in was fired up in trying to understand human behaviour and help adolescents find their place in the world. I am interested in self-directed behaviour change and how counselling, learning and cognition are interrelated especially through Relational Frame Theory. RFT is a linguistic/cognitive based approach which helps understand how we learn and how we can become more aware of the ideas, beliefs and mental constructs influence how we feel and behave. One way of understanding of RFT is through metaphoric learning.
