Certificate of Attainment in Group and Individual Supervision

Professional/clinical supervision is an essential safeguard for clients, support for counsellors and mental health workers and a process through which practitioners can develop their skills and competence.

A competent professional/clinical supervisor for counsellors and psychotherapists and mental health workers should be able to conduct supervision sessions using various supervision interventions, provide effective evaluation and feedback to supervisees, and address the ethical and legal considerations of supervision.

The supervision training course will facilitate the development of supervisory knowledge and skills for experienced counsellors and equip practitioners with the specialist knowledge and skills necessary to be an effective supervisor.

3 Day Live Training Schedule

Each day is 9.00 am – 4.30 pm and attendance is mandatory

Day 1: Group supervision training and practical group exercises

Day 2: Training and Supervision case studies plus supervision demonstration by trainer and assessment preparation.

Day 3: Supervisor assessments completed in triads consisting of supervisor, counsellor and assessor. Each participant assessment is for 60 min.

Please note as per ACA guidelines assessments are conducted in-person at the venue by a supervisor/trainer who is a member of the College of Supervisors. Participants must be present to complete assessment, and cannot submit by video or recording. Counsellors must present real scenarios to supervision – roleplays are not accepted.

This training program consists of a mandatory pre-workshop video training, textbook, online assessment/questionnaire and three-day workshop, which provides the foundational knowledge essential to this workshop.

This training is designed to provide supervision training for mental health professionals, including clinical counsellors who are currently, or are going to be, responsible for the practice of counsellors and other mental health workers. The Seasons of Life Counselling Certificate of Attainment covers all the competencies that is required under the Australian Counselling Association’s training standards:

  • Define the role of a clinical supervisor
  • Identify the goals of supervision
  • Discuss and apply theories and models of supervision and skills
  • Describe and discuss the supervisory relationship
  • Demonstrate the skills required for conducting different supervision interventions

Qualified counsellor, current member of ACA (2364) Level 4, Member of College of Supervisors, Cert IV TAE
Penny is a counsellor with a decade of experience in schools and private practice. She has been supervising for 7 years and has been delivering supervision training since 2021 in South Australia. Penny is a qualified trainer holding a Cert IV TAE and spent 7 years working for an RTO training counsellors in the Diploma, Advanced Diploma and Graduate Diploma space and is passionate about equipping the next generation of counsellors and supervisors. Penny is a local South Australian has lived in the city, regional and rural areas for over 23 years. She is familiar with the South Australian demographic and mental health system.
