Language barriers can be experienced by many from different cultures, with no culture being right or wrong, better or lesser, rather just different. What if Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is simply a different culture – a different way of experiencing life with a different way of expressing – not better or lesser, just DIFFERENT.Without understanding differences it is easy for unnecessary conflict to occur, often a result of a breakdown of communication. With over 24 years’ experience working with people who have an Autism Spectrum Disorder, Tanya Curtis offers an interactive workshop exploring and developing a means of communicating in a family or workplace when one member (child, partner, family member, student, friend, colleague etc) has an Autism Spectrum Disorder either formally diagnosed or suspected.Tanya understands that although there is no ‘right or wrong’ way of communicating, people with an ASD often speak and hear a completely different language than some others. This ‘different’ style of communicating from both parties can often lead to anxiety, conflict and many unwanted behaviours being used as a result of different interpretations of the same message. In this presentation Tanya will introduce a simple yet very effective style of communication that offers to bring understanding to both parties; a style of communication that when implemented has changed the status for many struggling relationships in homes, schools, workplaces and communities, while laying a foundation for building a new and solid way forward.
