Description:

OPD Points: 5

This is the third video in a series in which Dr Ella Brent presents Dialectical Behaviour Therapy(DBT) concepts and skills for practitioners, within an integrated therapeutic framework.

Key Learning Objectives / Outcomes:

Previous videos in the series illustrated the value of separating inside experiences from outside actions. The value of a “pause” between the experience of intense feelings, and the consequent urge to act impulsively (to discharge that internal arousal) is a core feature of the model. The idea of a pause is easier to talk about than to achieve, particularly for a clinical group with limited internal affect regulation. Therefore DBT is designed to meaningfully teach clients how to pause, not just that they should try to pause.  This video presents the practical application of this concept in clinical settings.
