OPD Points: 5
Outline:
This model provides a framework for therapists, doctors, teachers and parents to assess and treat those on the autistic spectrum and related conditions in a developmentally appropriate manner. This model focuses on the use of affect-based interactions based on individual needs in order to promote development. The goal of the DIR® model is to enable children with sensory processing challenges to form a sense of themselves as intentional, interactive individuals, who can develop cognitive, language, and social capacities. This calls for the mastery of six functional developmental levels using comprehensive interventions that treat problems related to gaps in these foundational capacities.
