Duration: The course runs for 8 months, with online sessions on two Wednesday evenings per month from 7-9pm.
Each month introduces a new Module, which is explored across theoretical and practical dimensions. The 7th Module includes a 5-day immersive retreat in NNSW.
Here we put all that we have learnt into practice, deepen our own connection to nature, and ensure we are proficient in our capacity to share the innate wisdom that is revealed through the practice of Ecotherapy. At the culmination of the 8 Modules, we learn how to integrate Ecotherapy into our existing profiles. Professional supervision, including business building and clientele sourcing, is included.
Module 1 Welcome Back to Nature, Welcome Back to Self – an exploration of the way we can feel when we remember our deep connection with the natural world. Many people have profound experiences from the very start of this Module and course, as we return to our timeless roots together.
Module 2 Deepening Connections with Ancestral Wisdom – exploring practices that strengthen our relationship with nature, by drawing upon the traditions that all cultures practised throughout human evolution (prior to urban civilisation). We weave in what we can learn from First Nations people, what we know from anthropology and archaeology, and what we sense in our own mind, body and heart, when we open up to our kinship in nature.
Module 3 Safety, Trauma, Neuroscience and Plasticity – starting to explore working with clients safely, dealing with the effects of trauma and drawing upon recent developments in neuroplasticity and other scientific, research and evidence bases.
Module 4 Depth Psychology and Awakening – how to tap into what is valuable in the field of depth psychology, including the dreams, myths and symbols that have guided people for millennia. Linking western practices with the core aim of eastern contemplative traditions, to awaken the mind and nourish the soul.
Module 5 The Sacred in Nature – revitalising our relationship with the sacred in the material realm. Learning about religious systems and nature spirituality; animism and the living world.
Module 6 Initiation, Ritual, Ceremony – exploring what a nature-informed counselling practice can offer people in a world where we have lost initiation rites and communal ceremonies. We focus on the value of personal and collective rituals that work to open awareness to what we can learn from nature, from animal and plant totems, and from the elements of our world.
Module 7 Group Work and the Immersive Retreat – Thursday 22nd to Tuesday 27th of May, 2025 at the Arcoora Arts & Ecology Training Centre in NNSW. Five days of training and experience, including feedback for practitioners. Practising ecotherapy together, deepening into our nature connection exercises, and remembering what it is like to share with each other in a sacred circle, or Temenos. We also explore ways of working with eco-anxiety and grief. Retreat includes accommodation and catering, awakening practices, all training and exercises, sharing and feedback, ceremonies of connection with nature (including sun, moon, planets and stars), guided meditations, animal totem workshop and more.
Module 8 Integration and Professional Business Supervision – integrating ecotherapy into everyday life and our practice. Professional Business Supervision session – gaining clientele ethically, networking, intake, working in urban environments.
