Schema Therapy was developed by Jeffrey Young in the 1990’s. It has gained international recognition as an integrated, emotionally-focused, therapeutic approach that is particularly helpful in complex cases. Coping modes develop to help protect and perpetuate our schemas (discussed in Part 1) in our adult life. Schema Therapy aims to heal schemas, lessen the use of maladaptive coping modes and strengthen the healthy adult mode.Part 2 can be viewed as a stand-alone presentation for those familiar with Schema Therapy, although it ideally follows Part 1. It is a valuable presentation series for psychologists new to the Schema therapeutic approach; those considering accredited training; and psychologists needing a “refresher” on the therapeutic principles.
