It’s no secret that pornography is a contentious topic for clients and practitioners alike. Our attitudes and beliefs about porn are shaped by social, cultural, political, religious and moral influences and often involve feelings of shame or embarrassment. The antidote to our fraught relationship with sexual media is porn literacy.Tanya will offer different lenses to view pornography (pardon the pun!) and share her non-pathologising approach that is rooted in curiosity to explore the meaning and beliefs clients hold about porn and how this impacts their relationship and themselves. This masterclass will unpack the male gaze and unhelpful porn tropes, examine the role of porn in relationships, shine a light on porn infidelity, and explore whether personal porn use can be a good thing. Tanya will provide therapeutic frameworks to help folk become critical consumers of porn, and identify when porn use becomes problematic. She will demonstrate counselling interventions to facilitate dialogues about the role pornography might play in a client’s sexuality and relationships. This masterclass coversDifferent lenses to view the use and role of pornography in people’s livesUnpacking the male gaze and unhelpful porn tropesNavigating porn infidelityIdentifying when porn use is problematicCritical consumption of pornographyCounselling interventions to explore the meaning, thoughts and beliefs clients hold about pornDate: 15th May 2024 12 pm-1:30 pm Syd, Australia Time
