The Adolescent Masterclass is an intensive, hands-on training designed for registered mental health professionals working with or aspiring to work with teen clients, seeking support with rapport building and developmentally tailored counselling approaches.
After completion of this masterclass, participants will be able to:

Understand the unique developmental and social needs of adolescents to guide therapeutic support: Foundational knowledge of the biological and social development of adolescents, enabling them to tailor their therapeutic approaches to this unique client population.

Identify common mistakes made in adolescent counselling and apply practical solutions to ensure the highest level of care and rapport, including ethical and safeguarding concerns

Implement effective rapport building techniques to form a basis for teen therapy: Tried-and-tested techniques for building rapport, aligning therapeutic methods with the developmental needs of teens to enhance engagement and outcomes

Awareness of current best practice for adolescent therapy: Attendees will be equipped with evidence-based frameworks and actionable strategies, including narrative therapy approaches, to apply in their practice immediately

Experience collaborative skill development: Through intimate small group coaching and case study discussions customised to individual needs, participants will enhance their skills through co-learning, while also expanding their professional networks in a supportive learning environment

Presenter Qualifications:
Bachelor of Arts (Psychology), Master of Counselling
Ellie is a dedicated Counsellor, following a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and a Master’s degree in Counselling, with a specialisation in Youth Trauma and Grief. Furthermore, she has received comprehensive additional training in family therapy, child and adolescent counselling, supervised by Sydney’s leading family and child therapists and organisations. Ellie began her training with years in the non-for-profit sector, working with high-risk youth and their families. In addition, she has curated and led mental health workshops in primary and high schools, including to address mental health crises. She now runs her online counselling practice, Cocoon Mental Health, offering individual and family counselling for young people and helping clinicians deliver the best service to young people, through coaching and professional development.
Ellie is passionate about educating practitioners through training and supervising school workshop facilitators, training clinicians in youth organisations, and lecturing undergraduate Psychology and Counselling students. Her global experience spans Australia, the UK, and Canada, fuelled by a lasting curiosity and commitment to the field of mental health.
