Within this module there are 5 self-paced chapters:

Introduction to Milan Systemic Therapy, Hypothesising, Neutrality, Circularity, The Post Milan Approach. The module includes videos reflective learning tasks, practice examples, demonstrations, references and a short quiz at the end of the module. The course provides a number of up to date and reliable references. A Certificate of Completion is issued on the completion of the course.

Learning Outcomes:

• To review the Milan approach to systemic family therapy including the original key ideas and practices of hypothesizing, circularity and neutrality and the progression to the ideas of post-Milan and postmodern thinking
• To develop knowledge of systemic family interviewing skills and circular questioning
• To review the impact of second order cybernetics viewing the client as the expert and valuing the therapist – client relationship
• To recognise the importance of gender, sexuality, culture and power issues in family therapy and the influence of social constructionist ideas as well as psychoanalytic ideas for working in the therapeutic relationship
