By the end of the one-day workshop participants will be able to: 1. know how to Use some of the skills and techniques of  Positive Psychology strategies, some of the approaches in Solutions Focused Therapy and how Compassion Focused Therapy can assist in self-care for clients 2. Learn how art exercises can add a non-verbal layer of learning to enhance the use of these approaches.The knowledge gained is especially helpful for Health Care Professionals, Teachers, School Counsellors, Social Workers, Occupational Therapists, Psychologists, Counsellors, Art therapists and people interested in gaining more skills to increase general wellness for themselves and for others they work with.  

Key Learning Objectives / Outcomes:

 Session 1Introduction to Positive Psychology-Savouring and remembering  (Plain sketch paper, and graft materials, glue, scissors)Session 2 Finding Meaning – Making a survival box (Found Items outside or inside – a box with a lid) Session 3Developing strengths and Resilience (your choice of art materials)Session 4Guided Meditation "A Gift for Now" (After meditation, gather any object to use it as a metaphor). Session 5Solution Focused Therapy – "The Miracle Question" (Collage, Magazines, glue, scissors, paper and pens) Session 6Compassion Focused Therapy 'Building a Compassionate Image' (Clay, Playdough or objects) Observations of Images

Presenter Qualifications:

I am the founder of Expressive Therapy Clinic. I have completed a Graduate Diploma in Expressive Therapies and a Masters Degree in Art Therapy at the University of Western Sydney. I have worked as an Art Psychotherapist for many years in the fields of Disability, Addictions and Behavioural therapy. My passion is facilitating programs and individual therapy sessions that help clients learn experientially through creativity alongside the skills taught in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Positive Psychology and other therapeutic approaches. I have found over the last 6 years that this approach assists clients suffering symptoms of anxiety disorders, depression, behavioural issues, PTSD and specifically clients who suffer the traits of Borderline Personality Disorder. I have also worked as a consultant to Private Hospitals in Sydney providing these services. I have been trained as an Individual DBT Therapist through Marsha Linehan’s accredited trainers ‘Behavioral Technologies LLC and have been trained Positive Psychology, Solution Focused Therapy and Compassion Focused Therapy.I offer training sessions for other allied health practitioners in my field of speciality. I supervise other Art Psychotherapists and Counsellors. I have lectured at the University of Western Sydney and supervised student placements. I have published an article on her work in Art Psychotherapy and DBT in the 2nd Edition of ANZJAT (Australia and New Zealand Journal of Art Therapy) on DBT and Art Psychotherapy. I have previously presented and run workshops at Conferences in Australia, New Zealand and Singapore and have volunteered for the past 6 years up until 2012 on the Committee of Management of ANZATA (Australia and New Zealand Arts Therapy Association) . I am a Level 4 Counsellor and have been involved with the establishment and criteria for the new College of Creative Arts Therapies within ACA.
