Every student requires nervous system and skill maturity in order to apply themselves at school. This talk will provide the participant a clearer understanding of what it takes to become “executive”.
The Developmental Hierarchy of School Readiness
Objective:
OPD Points: 5
Outline:
Much of what occupational therapists focus considers the occupational skill of being a school student. According to Posner, attention is gained in stages of development and so Baddeley also described the neurological basis for achieving working memory. In practice we find that if any one of these crucial steps of the hierarchy is “missed”, it will be a cost to the student. Compensations take time and energy away from available working memory and the student has to “cope” instead of freely take in the new learning.
