Our Philosophy Series in 2024 moves into international territory. 4 well known international presenters will each present a discourse on a philosopher that has influenced them both in their personal life and in their practice. Each discourse – one per month from July to October – will be followed by small and large group discussion and exploration on how these ideas can be integrated into your practice.

- What does it mean to be authentic? Following the presentation, discussion on ways of becoming ‘courageous poets of our lives’ and supporting others to do the same
- Themes of non-interference, harmony with nature, attunement, emptiness and stillness – followed by discussion on how these ideas can be integrated into your practice
- Presentation of Karl Jaspers work and discussion about how Emmy van Deurzen applied it to her work with a particular client. Discussion about how these ideas can be integrated into your work.
- Explore a few of the most essential aspects of what it means to be ‘da-sein’ and its implications for personal life and the therapy room.

Presenter Qualifications:
- 1 Skye C. Cleary PhD MBA is a philosopher and author of How to Be You: Simone de Beauvoir and the art of authentic living, Existentialism and the Authentic Life, Existentialism and Romantic Love, and co-editor of How to Live a Good Life. She teaches at Columbia University and is a Thinking Partner with Philosophy at Work.
- Mark Yang, PsyD is an American licensed clinical psychologist and is actively involved in the training and supervision of psychology students from the Existential-Humanistic perspective throughout Asia. Dr. Yang is currently based in Beijing and has been instrumental in establishing Existential-Humanistic Psychology as a major orientation in the rapidly developing mental health landscape in China.
- Emmy van Deurzen is an existential therapist, counselling psychologist, and philosopher, who lives in the UK and who has written numerous books on life issues. Her work has been translated into over 30 languages. She founded the Society for Existential Analysis and its journal in 1988, the Regent’s School of Psychotherapy in 1990, and the New School of Psychotherapy and Counselling in 1996. She continues to be a director of the latter and of the Existential Academy and Dilemma Consultancy, both of which she co-founded with Digby Tantam.
- Erik Craig, Ed.D., is a licensed psychologist, author, and independent scholar in private practice in Santa Fe where he meets patients, writes, and enjoys hiking in the magical hills of New Mexico’s high mountain desert landscapes. Erik’s primary professional interest has been in developing phenomenological hermeneutic grounds for understanding critical issues in psychological theory, research, and practice with the hope of achieving a comprehensive, existential approach to depth psychology
