The transition to Grade Four is well-known to be difficult for many children and, for those with gaps in their foundation skills or with specific learning difficulties, it can be the time when things really fall apart.
Outline:
This talk will consider the reasons why some children struggle with the transition into Grade Four, focusing specifically on cognitive, emotional and literacy development of children at this stage as well as the academic demands made on them. Practical ideas of how to support these children will be discussed from a psychologist, parent, teacher and remedial therapist point of view.
