This half-day, live online training introduces you to the uses of puppets for counselling work with children. Puppets are part of the magic of childhood. In counselling and play therapy with children, puppets can be used by the child as a safe, projective way to explore feelings and issues, thereby reducing symptoms and enacting various ways so solve problems. Counselling and play therapy with puppets is particularly effective for those working with young or traumatized children who may not respond to traditional approaches. It has also been found to be effective in telemental health sessions (online sessions).In this three-hour presentation, you will review the history of puppets in play therapy, learn ways to select puppets for specific child counselling activities, and explore interventions to facilitate the therapeutic powers of play. This will be an interactive workshop in which you will make a puppet for use in therapeutic contexts, as well as practice experiential play therapy activities using your puppet. Supplies can be gathered from the office or even at home. You will have the opportunity to: State 2 or more rationales for the introduction of therapeutic puppetry in the history of play therapy. Identify 2 or more therapeutic powers of play facilitated by puppets in play therapy. Demonstrate 3 or more specific therapeutic applications of puppets in play therapy. No artistic experience or skill is necessary. Certificate: In order to gain OPD points for this event, participants will need to undertake an assessment at the end of the online workshop and pass at no lower than 80%.
