This course is designed to equip support workers with the necessary skills and knowledge to establish effective relationships, assess the needs, and collaboratively work with individuals experiencing mental health issues.
The course is applicable to professionals working outside of the mental health sector but who interact with individuals dealing with mental health challenges. It emphasises the importance of respectful communication, cultural sensitivity, and supporting the rights and self-direction of the individuals receiving support.

Key Learning Objectives / Outcomes:

Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:
  1. Develop and maintain respectful, trusting relationships with individuals experiencing mental health issues.
  2. Assess the needs of these individuals and identify appropriate support strategies that empower them.
  3. Collaborate with individuals to support their goals and aspirations while upholding their rights and dignity.
  4. Adapt service delivery to meet the specific needs of individuals within the framework of organisational policies and procedures.
  5. Document interactions and provide timely, supportive responses during times of distress or crisis.
  6. Work within the boundaries of one’s professional knowledge and refer to other services when necessary.
