I’m Bernadette Sutherland. I have a Masters Degree in Health
Science (2010) and a Diploma of Counselling (2004) and qualified as a Family
Constellation Facilitator (2022). I am a member with the Australian Counselling
Association - Level 4. I have a private practice based in Mount Cotton, QLD.

I have been working with individuals and couples since February
2005 and have 20 years of experience.  I
work with a variety of issues, ranging from trauma, domestic violence, grief
and loss, relationship issues, separation/divorce, self-esteem, anxiety, depression,
family issues, stress, spiritualty, loss of hope, helplessness, and feelings of
stuckness.

It wasn’t until my early 30’s that I began my career in the
helping industry. I have always had a passion for empowering people and
facilitating change. In my work as a therapist, I like to say that I am
creative, intuitive and passionate and provide a safe space that allows people
to discover themselves.

I tend to use a variety of techniques and tools that assist
the counselling practice, such as art therapy, play therapy, inner child work, guided
imagery and visualisation and the use of creative cards and systemic family
constellations (individual constellations and group constellations).

Sitting with a therapist is so much more than just talking.
It’s about connecting to the many aspects of “SELF”, the mind, body, spirit,
and our emotional self. Human beings are complex, yet therapy doesn’t need to
be complex. It about providing a safe space for people to gently explore aspects
of their “life” & “self” that feel overwhelming. It’s about connecting more
deeply to who we are and where we come from. Our family of origin can influence
who we are in our relationship with others. Exploring this can be very helpful
in understanding some of our behaviours.   

On a personal note, I am proud woman with a Hungarian heritage,
a daughter, sister, wife, friend, creative, therapist, author, intuitive, and a
mother of a beautiful Labradoodle. I love learning about my family of origin,
where I come from and about my ancestors.
