My role as a Psychotherapist and Counsellor is about building a relationship with the client which allows us to work together as a team. We work through the presenting issues in a way that assists the client to a place of understanding about themselves and others. I believe that the past is alive in the present and the counselling discussions will often shift from past to present issues with the client. Sometimes, the client will learn about their extended family relationships and how these have contributed to who they are. Together we will explore the inner world of the client and gain understanding of the behaviours, thoughts and emotions that drive the presenting issues. Each session is uniquely tailored to the client as an individual and their needs. We explore the unknown within the person, learn from it and shift and grow into a place of understanding. The therapy methods that I practise are Person-Centred and Contemporary Psychodynamic. I also consider family systems and attachment theory.
