This research is being conducted by Sarah Sadiqi, Lachlan Seipel, and Rasikh Najam who are post-graduate psychology students at the Graduate School of Health at UTS. This research is being supervised by Micah Boerma.

What is this research about?

The purpose of this research is to investigate the experiences of Australian mental health professionals who work with adolescent males in individual counselling. The proposed study aims to advance understanding of how young men present and participate in counselling, with findings collated into practical recommendations for working with this unique population. 

You have been invited to participate in this study because you are an Australian mental health professional who identifies as working routinely with adolescent males in a face-to-face (or telehealth), individual counselling contexts.  

What does this participation involve?

If you consent to participate in this study, you will be asked to do the following:  

  • Read over this participation information sheet and provide written consent via this Qualtrics survey and provide a contact email address for the research team to organise a mutually agreeable time for an online interview.  
  • Complete an online, recorded Microsoft Teams interview that will include a discussion about your personal experience and perspectives of working with adolescent males in a counselling context. This is expected to last between 30-45 minutes.   
  • Once the interview and transcript are complete, your contact details, and audio or video recording will be deleted, and a participant ID applied to your data to ensure your anonymity.

This study has been approved by an ethics review panel in line with the University of Technology Sydney Human Research Ethics Committee [UTS HREC] guidelines. UTS Ethical Approval is G-21-2024.
