I am an Accredited Individual and Relationship Counsellor and Supervisor and have worked with people in varying roles for the past 30 years to support their understanding of themselves and the worlds that they live in. When you sit with me in the counselling room you have my full attention and complete interest in understanding your world. I am empathic, non-judgmental and attuned to the individual needs of each person in the room.
I have worked in many areas over my career including welfare, teaching, couples and family work as well as individual therapy and clinical supervision. I am an accredited supervisor and I have been providing supervision and leadership to other counsellors and mental health professionals since 2010. My journey through these roles has reaffirmed my love of working with people towards emotional and relational wellbeing.
As a couple and family therapist I am skilled at ensuring everyone feels heard and supported, exploring how current problems have developed and are being maintained by communication and behavioural patterns. I have a keen interest in helping deepen people’s ability to hear and be heard by their partner and other family members. While this work can be challenging for couples and families, it offers extensive opportunity for growth, clarity and connection.
I began my training with a Bachelor Degree in Psychology and Theatre Studies, then completed post graduate training in Teaching, and in Couple and Family Therapy. My work is influenced by a range of approaches including: Family Systems Theory, Imago Couple Therapy, The Gottman Method (of couple therapy), Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, Resource Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Trauma-Informed Practice, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, and group work theory and practice.
My education and experience has given me the skills I need to be an effective therapist for both individuals as well as couples and families. I have supported people who present with a range of issues that include: dealing with difficult relationship dynamics; living with domestic violence; managing parenting relationships; people undergoing separation; children and young people in the context of their family relationships; anxiety; depression; Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder; anger issues; Workplace issues and grief and loss.
Whether you are seeking support for yourself, for your relationship, or for your family, I am creative in the way I work, tailoring my sessions to the people who are sitting with me in order to create opportunities for connection, growth and change.
