Combined Professional Indemnity and Public Liability Insurance
The Australian Counselling Association (ACA) partner with Focus Insurance Brokers (Focus) to support your insurance and risk management requirements. Through their insurance company partners EOS Underwriting and Mitsui Sumitomo, Focus offers a Combined Professional Indemnity and Public Liability Insurance Policy specifically tailored to meet the needs of counsellors and psychotherapists practising in Australia.
The policy is well priced given the breadth of cover. For only $185, the policy offers:
- $20,000,000 Professional Indemnity cover
- $20,000,000 Public Liability Cover
- Nil excess when you lodge a claim
- Comprehensive cover for Breach of Privacy / Confidentially claims
- Australia wide cover. i.e. cover is not restricted to your main practice address
- Legal support to respond to HCCC and other industry legal body inquiries.
The policy can also be extended to include cover for other modalities/practices including social workers, hypnotherapy, provisional and registered psychologists, NDIS support workers and plan managers, naturopathy, reiki and other allied health services for an additional premium charge.
An additional benefit for registrants that arrange this insurance is access to a free telephone legal advice services for 15 minutes per consultation up to a maximum of one hour (equivalent to four separate consultations per year) in the following areas:
– Advice on your rights and obligations when you receive a request or subpoena to release your client records/note.
– General commercial advice on practice/business related issues, including business structures, contracts, commercial and retail leases, trusts, IP and trademarks, websites and website content, license agreements, privacy issues including how to deal with requests for information, compliance with subpoenas, employment matters, loan, mortgage and guarantee agreements.
– General advice on personal matters including wills and estate planning, conveyancing, leases, personal injuries, family law and criminal law matters.
This service is offered by a third party legal firm, Elit Lawyers. The policy schedule and product disclosure statement will outline all policy terms, including claim conditions and policy exclusion.
