After working within Federal Government agencies for 15 years, Juanita McMillan accepted the challenge of a career shift into counseling and has grown in her experience and knowledge of mental health challenges. Juanita has worked as a Wellbeing and Engagement Counsellor in schools since 2019. She is passionate about children and young people, the emerging challenges that they face, and the difficult journeys they take. And is equally focused on creating intentional, valuable conversations, when working with individuals and groups in a safe and accepting space.
Juanita values insight into family patterns, why we do the things we do, and how our beliefs and experiences can impact us. She uses both her own knowledge and lived experience and the thoughts, feelings and emotions of the client to form open, honest connections and foster change. She uses multi-disciplinary approaches to bring out the innate strengths of people, helping them to navigate narratives, break patterns and find flourishing. She also loves teaching and facilitating groups focussed on wellbeing, through art, music and more formal learning spaces; promoting wellbeing for the individual and in relation to others.
Juanita has achieved her Bachelor of Arts (Psychology), Advanced Diploma of Counselling and Family Therapies (Christian), Diploma of Counselling, Diploma of Christian Counselling, Diploma of Management and is a registered Counsellor with Australian Counselling Association.
Juanita loves being in nature, working in creative spaces, the Sydney Swans and big earrings.
