The day includes making and discussing five artworks.Session 1: Where did Art Psychotherapy come from? and What is it?(Art Work: free use of any materials to construct your first memory of making)Session 2: Art Psychotherapy and Creativity working with Children (Art Work: Finger painting – any paints you have)Session 3: Art Psychotherapy and Creativity with Adolescents (Art Work: Placing random objects)Session 4: Art Psychotherapy and Creativity with the Aged (Art Work: Collage – magazines, glue and paper)Session 5: The revealing image (Art work following a guided meditation – pencils and texters)Session 6: Compassion Focussed Therapy

Presenter Qualifications:

 Megan Shiell is the founder of Expressive Therapy Clinic. Megan has completed a Graduate Diploma in Expressive Therapies and a Masters Degree in Art Psychotherapy/Art Therapy at the University of Western Sydney. She has worked as an Art Psychotherapist for many years in the fields of Disability, Addictions and Behavioural therapy. Megan’s passion is facilitating programs and individual therapy sessions that helps clients learn experientially through creativity alongside the skills taught in a variety of settings for a variety of different clients. She has found over the last 18 years that this approach assists clients suffering symptoms of anxiety disorders, depression, behavioural issues, PTSD and specifically clients who suffer the traits of Borderline Personality Disorder. Megan has also worked as a consultant to Private Hospitals in Sydney providing these services. Megan supervises other Art Psychotherapists and Counsellors. She has lectured at the University of Western Sydney and supervised student placements. Megan has published an article on her work in Art Psychotherapy and DBT in the 2nd Edition of ANZJAT (Australia and New Zealand Journal of Art Therapy) on DBT and Art Psychotherapy. Megan has presented widely in Australia and Internationally on all aspects of Art Psychotherapy and its benefits.
