Online Facilitator-Led Professional Development Event regarding Brief Interventions and Motivational Interviewing in the Counselling and Community Services professions.

Key Learning Objectives / Outcomes:

An overview of brief interventions, as well as the Stages of Change Model, how to determine a client’s stage of change and how to raise awareness with pre-contemplative clients.

Understanding what motivational interviewing is, as well as the four main steps required. There is also a review of OARS and Change Talk techniques.

Applying concepts of supportive behaviour change with reluctant clients. This is done by reviewing collaborative relationships, facilitation planning and how to support continued change.

Responding to lapses and relapses of behaviour, as well as how to build client awareness of relapse prevention. Understanding the three stages of relapse, as well as how you can help prevent and manage client relapse.

Presenter Qualifications:

Master of Counselling, Diploma of Professional Counselling, Diploma of Community Services Coordination, Cert IV in Training and Assessment    

Michelle is an experienced presenter, academic, counsellor and supervisor.  Her professional practice focuses on counselling women, individuals and families.  Michelle is a Sessional Academic and Supervisor at the Queensland University of Technology in their counselling and psychology programs, as well as a trainer and assessor at the Australian Institute of Professional Counsellors.
