The Certificate in Initiatic Art Therapy is a foundation course for those looking for applicable art-based tools to work with their clients. The exercises are designed to be not messy to suit an environment set up for talking therapy. The Training Program will be offered over three weekend workshops held at Claerwen Retreat in Apollo Bay. The aim of the courses is to enable participants to integrate art therapy approaches into the existing framework of their current practice, be it as counselor, social worker, teacher, nurse, artist, or psychologist…….. A wide range of practical exercises are taught to suit a range of different settings such as family art therapy, working with symbols, identity, and how to stabilize clients through building trust, safety, and self-esteem. The altogether total of 54 group hours will include experiential workshops, seminars, and supervision. The aim is to teach a wide range of exercises and approaches tools suitable for a variety of different client groups and inner needs.
Key Learning Objectives / Outcomes:
Participants will:
1. be able to define the therapeutic application of different art materials based on an understanding of the effect these can have on a client’s neurobiology
2. be able to suggest at least three art-based exercises as an intake assessment tool
3. be able to facilitate a meaning-making process for clients based on their artwork
4. be able to define at least three art-based ways of stabilizing a traumatised client
5. be able to define aspects of nervous system regulation built on the principals of Polyvagal Theory
6. be able to define at least three exercises that teach clients Pendulation based on Somatic Experiencing trauma theory
7. be able to define trauma-informed, bottom-up, approach and apply this knowledge to counselling and psychotherapeutic goals.
