Competency-Based Supervision Skills Training Workshop (Videoconference)

This 2-day skills-based workshop provides participants with a thorough understanding of the principles and practice of effective clinical supervision. You will learn about the relevant theories and models of supervision and learn how to set up, manage and evaluate both individual and group supervision contexts incorporating best practice standards and reflective practice.
The workshop will be delivered via ZOOM interactive videoconferencing using breakout rooms for small group discussion and practice sessions. You must be able to join the workshop using your camera and have sound for class participation. This workshop involves interactive class activities, maximising the learning experience, just as in the classroom. In addition to providing workshops throughout Australia, this program is also available to participants internationally (e.g., Singapore and Hong Kong).
This workshop offers up-to-date resources, readings and handouts and all participants receive a Supervision Reference Guide. This course is for those seeking OPD points only. Those seeking to become an ACA Accredited Supervisor need to undertake the ACA-accredited Supervision course offered by Clinical Supervision Services. All course notes are provided electronically, including references, PowerPoint presentations and a Supervision Resources Handbook.

Presenter / Provider:
Sam Vasta
Presenter Qualifications:
Sam Vasta worked in public community mental health for over 35 years as a senior clinician and Service Manager. He has a background in both Social Work and Counselling Psychology and a wealth of clinical experience and supervision practice across a range of service settings. These include specialist services for young people experiencing mental health problems, clients experiencing enduring mental illness, drug and alcohol and complex trauma. As a Service Manager, Sam supervised health practitioners and team leaders, often involving complex clinical scenarios and risk presentations, in addition to supporting and debriefing staff following critical incidents. Sam provides accredited supervisor training for PACFA (Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia) and ACA (Australian Counselling Association) and is an approved supervisor and trainer with AHPRA. He lectures across Australia and Singapore and provides in-house supervisor training for mental health and allied health staff.Currently, Sam also provides individual and group supervision to a range of practitioners across various government, NGO and private sector settings. Given his background and extensive experience, he is often called upon to provide consultation, supervision and mentoring to Team Leaders and Managers to support them to survive and grow in challenging leadership positions.
