Black Dog Institute Program Development: Responding to suicidality and self-harm in primary schools

Expression of Interest - Consultation Phase

The Black Dog Institute has been working closely with key stakeholders to develop evidence-informed and evidence-based training programs and resources to support schools in suicide prevention.

They are currently seeking expressions of interest from school counsellors working in the primary school setting in rural, regional, and remote Australia to engage in their consultation phase and to inform this important work.

What’s involved?

Option 1: Online Focus Group (90 minutes)

Option 2: Online interview (60 minutes)

A range of times in and out of work hours are available.

Topics to be explored

 

Identifying primary-aged students at risk of suicidality or non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI).

Creating a safe space and initiating a conversation to assess risk and response.

Responding using a team approach.

Implications of age on safety planning interventions.

Involvement of parents/ carers.

Involvement of external agencies.

Managing contagion.

Ongoing support for students at risk.
