NAIDOC Week of Celebrations – “The Next Generation: Strength, Vision and Legacy”
6 - 13 July 2025
This year’s theme for NAIDOC theme honours the strength of our ancestors, the vision of our Elders, and the legacy we are building for future generations. Here at the ACA, we are contributing to that legacy through the heartfelt and committed work we do in counselling. Together, we are laying strong foundations – so that the next generation can rise, thrive, and continue the pathways we are shaping today.
NAIDOC Week is a time to recognise and celebrate the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. It is an opportunity for all Australians to come together and learn, listen, and connect.
Let us walk together – in learning, in celebration, and in shared purpose.
I encourage everyone to get involved in NAIDOC Week events and activities, immerse yourselves, and experience the richness of Indigenous culture during this important week.
Strengthening our Pathways
Whilst I was in Adelaide, ACA Student Engagement Officer, Karen, and I visited the Dulwich Centre and met with David Denborough to yarn about the Master of Narrative Therapies which is one of three Indigenous based ACA accredited qualifications. David also took Karen and I to see the very table that Harold Thomas designed the Aboriginal Flag which was incredibly special.

We also visited met with Fiona and Katie from Nunkuwarrin keeping our connections to students and alumni strong and nurturing these valuable pathways for the Diploma of Narrative Therapies for Aboriginal People and the Bachelor of Counselling.
Update Your Member Profile
If you have not done so already, please do so as you now have the option to identify as either an Indigenous Counsellor or a Non-Indigenous Counsellor collaborating with Indigenous clients through your member portal. This is entirely optional but helps me tailor communication and share relevant updates more effectively. If you feel comfortable doing so, I would love to connect with you in this way.
Upcoming Visual Project – Join the Yarning Circle
We are still wanting members to join our upcoming Yarning Circle focused on a powerful new project. This project will visually reflect the heart of our collective work in mental health and the social, emotional wellbeing, and healing of our communities.
There’s still time to express interest in joining this Yarning Circle. If you would like to be part of this meaningful initiative, please reach out via email—I would love to hear from you.
Thank you for all the incredible work you continue to do. I look forward to reconnecting with you soon.
