Debra is a Deaf Social Worker and qualified Counsellor with experience in the disability sector. She holds a Master of Social Work, a Master of Counselling, a Bachelor of Human Services, and a Diploma of Community Services.
Her expertise includes counselling, advocacy, and health promotion, with a strong commitment to empowering individuals and communities. Debra works with clients on a range of issues, including anger management, anxiety, grief and loss, disability support, parenting skills, NDIS navigation, and relationship challenges.
Debra is passionate about supporting Deaf people, particularly those affected by domestic or family violence. She founded Deaf Survivors of Domestic Violence Australia (DSDVA) to provide peer support and accessible resources in Auslan.
As a 2018 Churchill Fellow, Debra researched best practice models for Deaf survivors internationally. Her leadership has been widely recognised, including being named Deaf Australian of the Year in 2018.
Debra is dedicated to creating safe spaces, promoting mental health, and advancing equality for the Deaf community through counselling and systemic change.
